Description
The Tesla Model 3 trunk is the go-to place for storing items big and small, and the Tesla App is great for opening the trunk remotely. But when the trunk hatch opens, it opens just a crack. If your hands are full, you have to juggle the bags or items you’re carrying in order to manually pull open the trunk hatch. Our Trunk Lift replaces the existing Model 3 OEM trunk lift supports with upgraded supports and springs that will cause the trunk to open fully in an automatic manner when you use your App. Just place your items in the trunk, close the trunk hatch and you’re on your way.
The EVANNEX Trunk Lift supports replace the Tesla OEM trunk supports, but use the same OEM latching mechanism. They allow the trunk hatch to fully open in an automatic manner when using the Tesla App or in-vehicle controls.
Replacing the OEM trunk lift supports takes less than 15 minutes and requires only a small and medium size screwdriver. Simply pry up a pressure band at the end of the OEM trunk lift support using a small screwdriver, use the medium screwdriver as leverage, pull off the old support, and then replace it with the EVANNEX Trunk Lift support by snapping it into place. The entire operation for both the driver and passenger side support should take less than 15 minutes.
The EVANNEX Trunk Lift is an integrated solution that includes three components: (1) an upgraded pneumatic strut for greater lifting power, (2) a special spring that provides the vertical force required to initiate upward trunk movement, and (3) a small stainless steel washer that ensure smooth, rattle free movement. All three components come pre-assembled with the EVANNEX Trunk Lift.

The Tesla Model 3 frunk is the perfect place to store small items, and the Tesla App is great for opening the frunk remotely. But when the frunk hood opens, it opens just a crack. If your hands are full, you have to juggle the bags or items you’re carrying in order to manually pull open the frunk hood. Our Frunk Lift replaces the existing Model 3 frunk lift supports with upgraded supports that will cause the frunk to fully open in a smooth motion when you use your App. Just place your items in the frunk, close the frunk hood and you’re on your way.
The EVANNEX Frunk Lift supports replace the Tesla OEM frunk supports, but use the same OEM latching mechanism. They allow the frunk hood to fully open in a smooth motion when using the Tesla App or in-vehicle controls.
Replacing the OEM frunk lift supports takes less than 10 minutes and requires only a small screwdriver. Simply pry up a pressure band at the end of the OEM frunk lift support using a small screwdriver, pull off the old support and then replace it with the EVANNEX Frunk Lift supports by snapping them into place. The entire operation for both the driver and passenger side support should take less than 10 minutes.

Specification
EVANNEX Trunk Lift supports are automotive parts that replace the existing Tesla OEM trunk supports, allowing the trunk hatch to fully open in a smooth motion. Each Trunk Lift is a pneumatic strut (in actuality, these supports are gas loaded, rather than air loaded, and are sometimes referred to as “gas springs”) that is 13.75 in. (35 cm) long with a maximum diameter of 0.9 in. (2.25 cm). A special spring is 1.5 in. (3.8mm) long and 1 in. (2.54cm) in diameter) is placed over the strut shaft and is used to initiate upward movement. A stainless steel washer separates the spring from the stud’s pneumatic cylinder. The entire part snaps into place using a ball and socket mechanism at both ends. A tension ring holds the ball and socket in place and is actuated using a small flat blade screwdriver.
EVANNEX Trunk Lift supports are sold as a pair (2 supports per set) to replace both the driver and passenger side OEM trunk lift supports.

FAQ
How are EVANNEX Trunk Lift supports different than Tesla OEM Supports?
Tesla OEM supports do not cause the trunk to fully open when it is actuated via your Tesla App or from inside the Model 3. The trunk lift opens only a crack and must then be lifted by hand. The EVANNEX Trunk Lift Supports cause the trunk hatch to fully open in an automatic manner when actuated.
How many Trunk Lift supports are provided?
Two (2) supports are provided as a set to replace the two OEM supports.
Are the EVANNEX Trunk Lift supports difficult to install?
Installation is relatively simple and takes no more than 15 minutes. You use a small flat blade screwdriver to pry up a tension ring that holds the OEM lift support in place and then remove the socket that holds one end in place. The EVANNEX Trunk Lift Support simply snaps into place. We have developed an installation video and detailed written instructions for EVANNEX Trunk Lift Supports.
Why does the Trunk Lift need the springs you show in the photos?
The springs are used to provide the necessary force to initiate upward movement. Once movement begins, the springs have done their job.
Are the springs and the strut pre-assembled?
Yes. The EVANNEX Trunk Lift comes pre-assembled. You take it out of its package and its ready to install.
I noticed that you replaced the OEM trunk supports (struts) one at a time. Why is that?
That’s important. It enables you to work on one side while the trunk hatch is supported by the other OEM strut. Once the driver side is replaced, you then remove and replace the other side. WARNING: The trunk hatch (when supported by only one strut) will drift downward as you work to install the new Trunk Lift. It’s a good idea to have a friend hold the trunk hatch in place as you work or to support the hatch with a piece of wood, just to be safe.
From the video, it looks like the trunk hood rises fairly quickly and that there is a very small recoil or “bounce” at the top of the trunk hatch travel. Is that to be expected? Can I change the speed or reduce the bounce?
The opening speed is relatively fast (see video). The recoil, although quite small, does exist and is caused by the momentum of the hatch as it goes up. The opening speed and recoil are determined by the lift strut mechanics and internal pneumatic pressure—they cannot be changed. WARNING: Do NOT attempt to disassemble or modify the EVANNEX Trunk Lift support. Damage or personal injury could occur.
On occasion, Trunk Lift makes a small noise when I close the trunk hatch. What causes that sound?
The trunk lift supports are connected to the hatch and the car body using a ball and socket arrangement. In some cases (e.g., if you close the hatch by pulling down from the driver or passenger side rather than the center of the hatch), the socket may shift by a few millimeters and collide with the ball. That is the cause of the sound.
I’m really not a DIYer. How long would it take an installer to do this?
Less than 15 minutes. We recommend showing our Installation video to the installer before doing the installation.
Will the EVANNEX Trunk Lift supports open the trunk hatch fully, or do I have to help manually?
The EVANNEX Trunk Lift Supports will open the trunk hatch fully without any help from you. They will hold the hood in place until you want to close it. Closure is accomplished manually by pulling down on the hood. Note: Closure does require greater downward force than that used for the OEM supports.
Does EVANNEX Trunk Lift open the trunk hatch to the exact same height as the OEM lifts?
Because the EVANNEX Trunk Lift struts are slightly shorter, the trunk hatch opens a few inches less when measured vertically from the ground. In general this has no practical or functional affect.
Does it take a bit more force to close the trunk hatch when EVANNEX Trunk Lift has been installed?
Yes. Like any automatic opening mechanism, you’ll need to apply enough force to overcome the pneumatic lift force. The downward force you need to apply is not excessive, but you will notice a difference. It will require more downward force to close the trunk hatch.
I noticed that my Tesla OEM supports are slightly longer and have a slightly larger cylinder diameter. Is that a problem?
Not at all. On some Model 3 vehicles (including AWD configurations), the Tesla OEM trunk supports are slightly longer and do have a slightly larger pressure cylinder diameter. Our replacement supports provide the appropriate upward force to open the trunk lid fully.
Is there anything I need to do when I initiate opening of the trunk?
The only common sense thing to do is not lean over the trunk hatch as it opens. The hood opens reasonably quickly. Take a step back if you’re close to the hood.
How do I close the trunk hatch?
Using the same approach you’ve always used. Grip the hatch close to the centerline with both hands and pull downward in a firm but gentle motion. You’ll notice a bit more closing resistance, but otherwise, the trunk hatch closes and locks using the OEM Model 3 trunk latch. IMPORTANT: Be sure you hear a mechanical click that indicates the trunk latch has engaged.
Could these replacement Trunk Lift supports cause the trunk to open inadvertently during driving?
We have tested our trunk lift supports thoroughly on Model 3 and have experienced no issues whatsoever. The OEM trunk hatch latch has been designed to hold the hatch in place securely and safely. When the hatch is pressed into place properly, the latch mechanism locks automatically and the trunk hatch will not open, regardless of the trunk hatch supports that are used. The trunk hatch should be opened using either interior controls via the display screen or the Tesla app only when the car is at rest, never when the car is in motion.
Can I install Model 3 Trunk Lift Supports on Tesla Model S or Model X?
No! DO NOT attempt to replace Model S or Model X trunk struts with the Model 3 Trunk Lift Supports. The Trunk Lift Supports are compatible ONLY with Model 3.
How long does it take to receive my EVANNEX Trunk Lift order?
The EVANNEX Trunk Lift usually ships within 24 business hours of receipt of order. Delivery time depends on your location relative to South Florida and is typically within three (3) days for the continental U.S.
Does EVANNEX Trunk Lift ship to international destinations?
Yes, the Model 3 Trunk Lift Supports ship internationally.

Installation Notice
Before you order and install the EVANNEX Trunk Lift, please be certain to measure the driver side (A) and passenger side (B) gap between the trunk hatch glass and the hatch frame on both the driver and passenger side of Model 3. Measurement should occur at the point where the trunk frame begins. See photos below.
Measure dimension A and dimension B in mm. The difference between the gap measurements |A – B| should be less than or equal to 4mm. Specifically,
If |A – B| <= 4mm, installation of Trunk Lift can proceed as normal
If |A – B| > 4mm, the EVANNEX Trunk Lift should NOT be installed.
The vast majority of Model 3 trunk gap differentials ( |A – B|) will be <= 4mm. Only a very small percentage will be > 4mm.
Example -1: Measurement of the A gap is 5 mm. Measurement of the B gap is 4 mm. The difference between the gaps is 1mm. EVANNEX Trunk Lift can be installed.
Example -2: Measurement of the A gap is 7 mm. Measurement of the B gap is 2 mm. The difference between the gaps is 5mm. EVANNEX Trunk Lift should NOT be installed.

“One of the things my wife complained about when we first got our Model 3 was the fact that there wasn’t an automatic trunk lift. It’s a handy feature to have in some circumstances, and it’s something she expected to be included on such a high-tech vehicle.”
“The first thing I noticed is that the lifts appear to be high quality, and are at least as good as the original equipment lifts that come with the Model 3. That wasn’t surprising as we’ve come to expect only high-quality products from Evannex. The trunk lifts are definitely beefier and more powerful than the original equipment lifts and they include a thick compression spring to help give the pneumatic lift and initial boost when the trunk is opened.”
“The installation process couldn’t be any easier and all you need is a flathead screwdriver… [it’s] good deal as far as I’m concerned. Even if you don’t use them often for the intended purpose, you’ll surely get some kicks showing off how they work to your friends and family.”
