Product Introduction and General Guidelines for Install

 

The new Tesla Model 3 “Refresh” comes with OEM chrome delete. As a consequence, many owners of older Model 3s (2017-2020) are moving away from chrome trim. To accomplish this for your vehicle, you can “chrome-delete” or “blackout” all chrome trim on your Model 3. 

EVANNEX has designed and manufactured a Chrome Delete Vinyl Kit for Tesla Model 3 enabling owners to apply custom-cut blackout vinyl to the window trim, side mirrors, door handles, side camera housings, and Tesla “T” hood and hatch badges. Once you’ve applied the EVANNEX Chrome Delete Vinyl Kit, your Model 3 will have the updated stealth look of the Tesla Model 3 Refresh. 

The EVANNEX Chrome Delete Vinyl Kit for Tesla Model 3 contains the custom-cut vinyl you’ll need to do the job—satin black vinyl pieces for every trim piece and two different squeegees for smoothing and finishing the vinyl as it is installed.

 

 

Specification

All EVANNEX Chrome Delete Vinyl Kit pieces are custom-cut for Model 3 application and are available in satin black only. Each kit contains two (2) copies of every trim piece allowing you to recover from an installation mistake. The Chrome Delete Vinyl Kit contains 36 unique vinyl pieces custom-cut to accommodate both the driver and passenger sides of the vehicle. In addition, the kit comes with two (2) squeegees for edging and smoothing the vinyl, as well as a retractable utility knife with a 9mm wide blade which can be used if trimming is necessary. For each side of the vehicle, you’ll get:

• Mirror trim: 9 pieces
• Camera housing: 1 piece
• Door handles: 2 pieces
• Tesla “T” badges: 2 pieces each for hood and trunk hatch

The EVANNEX Chrome Delete Vinyl Kit is made at EVANNEX’s manufacturing facility in Deerfield Beach, FL using automotive-grade 3M 2080 vinyl. It is available in satin black finish only. 3M 2080 is a cast vinyl measuring 4.5 mil thick and designed to withstand rain, snow, mud, and all other typical matter encountered during driving.

 

 

FAQ

Why do I need a Chrome Delete Vinyl Kit?

Stated simply, to change the look of your OEM trim and give it a custom look which conforms to the new Model 3 Refresh. It’s important to note our vinyl kit allows you to change the look of your trim at relatively low cost. If at some point in the future you want to go back to the OEM chrome trims, vinyl is easy to remove with no damage to the OEM surfaces.

Wouldn’t it be better to have the chrome delete done at a custom shop?

That is an option, but the cost of a professionally installed full chrome delete would be considerably more expensive. Doing it yourself represents a substantial savings.

Why can’t I just use a generic chrome delete kit?

A generic “chrome delete kit” is brand and model independent, meaning it’s nothing more than thin strips of vinyl which have NOT been cut to the specific shapes and thicknesses of Model 3 trim. That makes it very difficult and time-consuming to install. Every piece in the EVANNEX Chrome Delete Kit has been custom-cut for Model 3, enhancing your ability to do a straightforward installation in a reasonable amount of time. Our chrome delete kit, unlike generic kits, is made from high-quality 3M 2080 vinyl and will withstand harsh environmental conditions for many years.

Do you provide vinyl pieces for all chrome trim on the Model 3?

Yes. We’ve designed and custom-cut vinyl pieces for every OEM trim element. In some cases (e.g. the mirror housings), chrome delete requires the application of multiple pieces, each of which is custom-cut to cover all of the chrome. We provide two (2) copies of each piece in case you make an installation error and need a spare.

Are the vinyl kits difficult to install?

They can be. Patience and a steady hand are required. Small alignment mistakes can lead to a less than perfect result. For this reason, we recommend professional installation if you have reservations about your DIY skills. We do provide detailed installation instructions and video (see our “Installation” tab).

Are special tools required?

The tools typically needed are squeegees for smoothing and finishing (included); a retractable utility knife with a 9mm wide blade (included); a spray bottle (not included) containing a water/alcohol mix to ensure proper cleaning and surface preparation (critically important); a hair drier (not included) to help remove any wrinkles and make the vinyl more pliable; and sharp scissors (not included).

Do I need to cut or trim the components of the vinyl kit?

In general, no. The vinyl kit components have been specifically designed and cut to fit without any requirement for cutting or trimming. However, a few vinyl pieces have been designed with a small overlap to make installation easier. A retractable utility knife with a 9mm wide blade is used to trim the overlap. In addition, you may need a blade for trimming if small angular or positioning errors, or stretching occur during installation.

Why does EVANNEX provide two copies of every shape when all I’d really need is one?

Vinyl installation can be challenging. For this reason, we decided to provide two (2) copies of every custom shape so you can recover from an error should one occur. Look at it this way: even if a perfect installation is executed on the first try, you’ll have a spare set as a backup in the unlikely event the vinyl is damaged at a later date. We fully understand this approach adds to the cost of the product, but we feel it’s the right thing to do to reduce the frustration which can occur if an installation error is made and/or if any part of the vinyl kit is damaged at a later date.

Do the vinyl kits provide a perfect fit for the OEM surfaces?

Each vinyl kit component fits the surface curvature and perimeter shape for which it was designed and fabricated. However, alignment varies with each installation and there may be tiny variances in fit. In general, these variances will be a half-millimeter or less. For most owners, any variance which might occur will not be noticeable.

Do you provide instructions for applying the vinyl kits?

We’ve developed detailed step-by-step written instructions for our Chrome Delete Vinyl Kit and a set of detailed installation videos (see “Installation” tab). When used in combination, these video and written instructions will give you comprehensive installation guidance.

Is surface prep complicated?

Not at all, but it does require care. The surface should be cleaned with a 60% water/40% isopropyl alcohol mix applied using a spray bottle, and then wiped away using a lint-free cloth or paper towel. The objective is to remove all dust, dirt, and greasy residue before vinyl installation commences.

Can I remove the vinyl if I decide to go back to the OEM chrome finish?

Absolutely. Vinyl can be removed at any time.

What is the projected life of the Chrome Delete Vinyl Kit?

Exterior vinyl should have a useful life of between 3 and 5 years. With our kit, you will have a backup set ready in case you need or want to replace the vinyl at any time.

Will the vinyl fade with time?

In general, vinyl is impervious to sun damage and will not fade or otherwise discolor.

Can the vinyl be scratched or otherwise damaged during regular use?

In general, vinyl is remarkably strong and resilient. However, if a sharp or abrasive object comes into contact with the vinyl, it can be scratched or torn, but that’s true of just about any surface. Just in case, we’ve provided two (2) copies of each vinyl kit piece.

If I decide to remove the vinyl after some period of time, can I reinstall it again at a later date?

No. Once the vinyl has set on the surface (requiring about 24 hours), its adhesion becomes stronger and more permanent. It can still be removed without difficulty, but removal will stretch and potentially tear the vinyl. It cannot be reused. However, we’ve provided two (2) copies of each vinyl kit piece which can be used in this instance.

What if I damage a vinyl kit component while I’m installing it?

That’s why we provide every customer with two (2) copies of each vinyl kit piece. If you make a mistake or damage a piece, you have a backup available.

Will I need to use the “fill-in patch” provided on vinyl sheet #1?

We provide the fill-in patch because alignment mistakes can happen. If a tiny sliver of chrome is visible on an otherwise excellent install, it’s often easier to cut and apply a small ‘fill-in patch’ than it is to reinstall an entire chrome piece. If you follow our instructions and proceed with care, it’s unlikely you’ll need to do a patch. We provide the extra vinyl as a courtesy just in case.

What is your return policy for the vinyl kits?

Once the backing is removed from any component of a vinyl kit, it may not be returned for credit or exchange. The reason is the kit cannot be resold once the backing has been removed. For more information, please review our Return Policy.

How long does it take to receive my vinyl kit order?

The EVANNEX Chrome Delete Vinyl Kit usually ships within 24 business hours of receipt of order. Delivery time depends on your location relative to South Florida and is typically within three (3) days for the continental U.S.

Do vinyl kits ship to international destinations?

Yes, the vinyl kits ship internationally.

 

 

Installation

Even though it looks easy, vinyl installation can be a challenging DIY project. Small errors in alignment, an inadvertent tear, stretching, or wrinkles which are challenging to remove do occur in some instances. If you’re not a DIYer, we strongly recommend you get a professional to do the installation work. We don’t want you to be frustrated or disappointed if you decided to try this on your own. If you choose to do the installation yourself, we ask that before you attempt this as a “DIY” project, you ask yourself the following questions:

• Have I installed vinyl kits successfully in the past?
• Am I an experienced DIYer?
• Am I willing to read and follow detailed installation instructions and watch the installation video?
• Do I have the patience required to apply and remove a vinyl piece until I get it right?
• Am I willing to overlook a small installation error when the totality of the end result is impressive?
• Do I have the time required to properly install the Chrome Delete Vinyl Kit, recognizing the typical times for an install on one side of the Model 3 could be between 2 and 3 hours?

If you answered “no” to two or more of these questions, we strongly recommend you have any vinyl kit you purchase installed by a professional. Please note the installation guidelines and instructions below will assist you or another installer. It’s imperative these are reviewed in full before, and during, installation.
